Loek Hermsen died

Former university employee Loek Hermsen unexpectedly died on Saturday, on March 24, at the age of 55.

Hermsen was a familiar face on campus. Since 1980 he worked at the university, long time at Prisma Print and (after reorganization at the printing office) as a groundskeeper. At the end of 2011 he started working Diamond Hermsen. Because of his death, Prisma Print was closed last Thursday for half a day.

Read below an In Memoriam of Loek Hermsen

Wearing leather cowboy hat, necklaces and rings, heavy coat or short sleeve. Rain or sun, he was always in a good mood. Singing loud, saluting or engaging in an animated conversation with anyone who had time for him. ““Hey moatje, hoe ist?”

You could have a conversation with Loek anywhere. He was sharp in his analysis about current events and developments in the country. He had an opinion on everything, without even having to think about it. He was stubborn and opinionated, and not easy to convince. But always light-hearted and cheerful.

He hasn’t been well for a long time already, but that was rarely noticeable thanks to his good mood. Every morning at 7 we drank a cup of coffee. We had hilarious conversations, and I laughed with him a lot….
