THE: Tilburg just among 300 best universities

Tilburg University is still part of the 300 best universities in the world, just like last year. This year it barely made the cut though. The leading magazine Times Higher Education (THE) publishes its annual ranking today. Tilburg University is on place 276-300, last year we took the slot 226-250.

Thirteen Dutch universities are in the ranking, with Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam as the first three. Tilburg University is the last Dutch university in line. Last week, a national ranking based on a survey among students and professors named Tilburg the best specialist University and the second best overall. Wednesday afternoon, the university celebrated this with a mail to all employees, promising them cake. Maybe that cake will soften the blow from the THE-ranking.

The best university of the world is California Institute of Technology, according to the ranking. Harvard University and the University of Oxford are next. Germany passes the Netherlands this year, because two German universities make it to the top 200 and the University of Twente did not.

If you are interested in how the THE gets its results, here is an expanded explanation.
