Harvard students start Resistance School to fight Trump

What to do when you’re watching your country go to shambles? A group of Harvard students took it upon themselves to provide people with the tools to fight back. “Our goal is to keep the embers of resistance alive through concrete learning, community engagement, and forward-looking action.”

Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 elections left many Americans disappointed. Amongst them is a group of Harvard graduate students. “Like so many Americans,” the students write on their website “the election moved us – a group of progressive graduate students at Harvard – to ask ourselves: How can we most effectively fight Trump’s agenda?”

Their solution was to start ‘the Resistance School’, aimed at providing people with the tools to fight back at the federal, state and local levels. The 11 creators have even compared themselves to ‘Dumbledore’s Army’, a reference to the famous Harry Potter series. Like the Harvard students, the group of students in the Harry Potter series uses education as a tool to help students fight against higher institutions.

Their Resistance School quickly developed from a small initiative between friends into a large community. The Resistance School has encouraged people to sign up in groups. Over 5000 groups from 50 states and 6 continents have already signed up for the school.

The four lectures are focused on communicating values, mobilizing and organizing communities, structuring and building capacity for action, and sustaining resistance for the long term. Lectures will be held on a weekly basis, starting April 5th with a lecture on the communication of values. Those who are interested can follow the live stream via this page, starting at 1 am European time. For those who would rather sleep, recordings of the lectures will be made available afterwards.
