Stroebe: ‘rapport Stapel rectificeren’

Stroebe mailt naar Univers: “While everybody is bending backwards praising the Levelt report, it would be time to point out that in chapter 5 they maligned social psychology as a discipline on the basis of no valid evidence. As the report states, they only looked at the Stapel research and therefore could not make any statement about social psychology. But then they go on doing precisely this, calling social psychology a flawed science. There reasoning is that since Stapel worked at various places and since reviewers did not catch the problems in his paper, the discipline must be flawed. This is total nonsence. The Committee looked at the Stapel research knowning that he had committed fraud. In contrast, the reviewers and collelagues knew Stapel as a young star and brillant social psychogist. And as i wrote in my misconduct article, reviewers do not look for misconduct, which they probably should. But this is a general problem.”
