More international students in the Netherlands

The number of foreign students that come to study on the Dutch universities is growing. Studying Economics is the most popular. This is shown in the research by Association of Universities (VSNU) for the academic year 2011-2012.

The influx of foreign students in the academic year 2010-2011 increased by 13 % to nearly 10.500 students. 4800 are doing their Bachelor degree, and 5600 follow a Master program. Two thirds of these students come from the European Economic Area (EEA) and one third comes from outside of EEA, according to the VSNU.

The majority (3000) of these students chooses studies in economics, but other studies are becoming increasingly popular as well.  The number of students studying technology increased by 14%, natural sciences by 17%, education by 32% and health 34%.

The flow of university bachelor graduates to university master programs has increased by 6%. In the academic year 2010-2011 there were over 31.000 bachelor graduates and almost 36.000 master graduates. The number of graduates grew by 13%.
