School of Economics experimenting with Summer Course

Mathematics and statistics: they remain a struggle for many students at the School of Economics and Management. The faculty addresses this problem and for the first time this summer organizes a Summer Course. Secondary school students will be able to study economics for two weeks.

According to the faculty, the gap between secondary education and the university is often too big when it comes to mathematics. Especially high school students who passed difficult mathematics courses with grade 6, at university level seem to have great difficulties with the mathematics and statistics courses.

Therefore, high school students who this year enrolled at the Faculty of Economics and Management showed an interest of following a summer course. Interested students can follow two weeks of classes in mathematics and statistics, so their skills will meet academic expectations.

The faculty hopes  not only to reduce students failing the course or having delays in their studies. It is also a way of showing them a way. During the summer course secondary school students can explore what topics they like and whether they have sufficient qualities.

Because this is the first year the faculty organizes the Summer Course, the faculty cannot yet predict how many interested students there are. There is space for at least ten and up to sixty students. The entry fee is two hundred fifty euro. If the Summer Course proves success, it will be offered next year.
