TiU app nominated for an award

The university app is nominated for a Computable Award. The university app is nominated in the category “ICT project of the year in the public sector”. In October, the winner is chosen by a jury and readers. Computable is an information platform for specialists in the IT sector.

Mathijs van der Paauw, one of the software developers at the university, is very proud that the app is nominated for the award. Van der Paauw, “The app was created through discussions with student groups. It was one of the most fun projects I’ve worked at the university. A neat feature of the app is that we can introduce or remove a service centrally, without updating the app itself. Otherwise, every time the application would have to be approved by Apple. ”

Van der Paauw says that the number of active users of the iOS application is around 3700 students. One in ten applications run it on an iPad.

Kevin Huitema, head of the ICT office of TiSEM says: “Eighteen months ago we did a survey among students on what facilities could be improved. They gave us insight on what services needed to be developed as well as on a better communication to students. There was a need for a facility for mobile devices. Library and IT Service was also working on a project like this (for Android and Blackberry), so we have decided to develop it together. ”

A future version of the iStudent TiU app will allow the reservation of a computer. The weekly menus of various restaurants on campus will also be more accessible: now they only show as PDFs.

It’s currently unknown when this function will become available.
