Transgender toilets in Sussex

The English University of Sussex is currently contemplating requests from their students to introduce gender-neutral toilets on campus. These toilets would be an addition to the normal mens and womens bathrooms. These gender-neutral toilets are meant to cater to the needs of transgenders, opening up the campus to ‘everyone’. Students Union says that for some individuals it can be “painful” to have to be forced to choose between the male and female icons on a daily basis.

Daily Mail states that Sussex could become the first University in the country with toilets for transseksuals. Student Union representative Imogen Adie does not appreciate this terminology at all, emphasizing that they want “gender-neutral” toilets, NOT toilets for transseksuals, because that would be “crazy”.

Not everyone seems to agree with the ideas. An anonymous respondents shares his opinion:  “It’s stupid. Haven’t the bleeding-heart brigade at the SU got anything better to discuss? ‘While they’re at it, why don’t they build a toilet for midgets? What a waste of time.’
