Starbucks sends employees to college

Starbucks helps its employers to get a better education, by sending them to an online college for free. In cooperation with Arizona State University, American employees can educate themselves, without being stuck to the coffee company for a long time.

The difference from other education programs, which are quite common in big companies, is that Starbucks sets almost no limitations. From when someone starts at the company, he can study whatever he likes, and after that leave whenever he likes. All he has to do is work at least 20 hours a week and have the grades and test scores to gain admission to Arizona State.

Arizona State University and Starbucks expect thousands to enroll in the program. The president of the Lumina Foundation, a group that focuses on the accessibility of education in America, is happy with the plan. He says to the New York Times: “Starbucks is going where no other major corporation has gone, for many of these Starbucks employees, an online university education is the only reasonable way they’re going to get a bachelor’s degree”.
