Student protesters Hong Kong clash with police

Protests in Hong Kong are reaching a more violent stage. A few weeks ago, we wrote about student protesters in Hong Kong who wanted to negotiate with the government to de-escalate the situation.  Now, the so-called ‘umbrella protests’ seem to be taking a turn for the worse.

Protesters have tried to break into the parliament today. This happened right after the police cleared a protesters’s camp. Riot police used pepper spray to keep them away from the building. The people involved in the protests are mostly young people from Hong Kong who demand more democracy and less involvement from the Chinese government. In 2017, the people in Hong Kong choose a new city government and the communist party in China wants to screen all candidates first.

The umbrella movement is mostly known as a non-violent protest. Protesters that attacked the parliament tell the BBC that they did it because the government keeps refusing to listen. The Telegraph made a photo report of the protests so far.
