Change the Tune adds artistic creativity to the university

Recite a poem, sing a song or preform a play: everything goes at Change the Tune, an evening organized by Extra Muros. And there’s an exclusive performance by the one and only university band.

The concept comes from a couple of Liberal Arts students, who quickly turned it into reality last year. The next edition will be the second one, so things will be bigger and better. “The first edition was organized in a short period of time, now we have a full committee wanting to make it a success”, says Anna Bruins, a committee member.

“When you study at a university, there is a lot of room for discussion and studying. However, university life can lack the attention for artistic creativity. We fill this gap”, says Anna. A result of the last edition was the formation of a university band, where students and professors play together. “They’ll be joining again this year, with some fresh faces. And we always welcome more people to join.”

Not just for the band, also for new acts that want to preform at Change the Tune. Because of their network (mostly LAS students) it is hard to reach certain people. “And we really want to include everyone. It’s not our goal to make it a Liberal Arts and Sciences party”, adds Anna. “Art is what makes humans special, we should share that.” Apart from having some fun and promoting creativity, the committee hopes to raise some money. Last year that money went to the street children of Colombia, this year it will help Support Nepal Together.
