Tilburg Uni employee wins carnival prize

Success for a Tilburg University employee in the Tilburg carnival procession yesterday: alumni officer Aniek Verhoeven was one of the winners. Her carnival association Kwikmedrillekes won the prize for Best Large Walking Group.

It was the eleventh time that Verhoeven’s Kwikmedrillekes participated in the parade and their third time to win an award. Verhoeven: It was super to win again and, thanks to the sunny weather of course, there was a great atmosphere.“

The public turned up in high numbers. “There was an enthusiastic crowd and people spontaneously joined us dancing”, said Verhoeven. The Kwikmedrillekes’ group, in pink with rubber rings, consists of women only and their theme was Zommedêene z(w)èmmer , which means something like a combination of swimming and ‘we are there in a minute’.

Not one student associations participated in the procession this year. Most of the students celebrate carnival by drinking beer in the pubs around the Piusplein in town. [EV, transl. YV]
