Tilburg Uni not in global reputation ranking

Harvard University in the United States has been ranked as the university with the best reputation for education and research in the World Reputation Rankings, a new ranking from the Times Higher Education magazine.

Delft University of Technology is the highest ranking Dutch university in the list, in the 49th place. The University of Utrecht is ranked between 71 and 80 place, both Leiden and Amsterdam are rated between the 81th-90th place.

Tilburg University does not appear in the Times Higher Education reputation ranking.

“It does not come as a surprise to me that we are not in the word-wide top 100 of well-known universities. We are a small, specialised university that is relatively young. It does not mean we have a bad international reputation”, explains rector Philip Eijlander. “It is no miracle that large, broad and traditional universities are ranking high on this international list, and that only four of fourteen Dutch universities are included. There’s nothing new under the sun.”

It is the first time that Times Higher Education magazine has listed top universities based on a university’s reputation for excellence, in both teaching and research. The ranking is the outcome of a survey among 1300 academics from around the world. [MW/transl. YV]
