54 hiring freeze exception requests filed

For 54 out of 200 Tilburg University staff members working on a temporary contract a hiring freeze exception request has been filed. The Executive Board has already decided which requests will be approved. The employees will be informed as soon as possible.

In the meantime, further steps in the budget cuts process have been prepared by the Executive Board.  Tilburg University has to cut its expenses by fifteen percent over a period of 3 to 4 years. It is clear that 10 million of the cuts need to be trimmed from the supporting staff activities. The remaining five million needs to be realized by improving the efficiency of education and research. Intensifying its approach to education remains Tilburg University’s top priority.

This week, directors of faculties and service departments will look for ways to cut expenses without immediately ending important tasks and activities. In addition, they will prepare an advice for the direction in which Tilburg University intends to economize .  On 11/12 April, the Board and the deans will discuss this during a special meeting.  [MW/trans.
