Belgian students protest against high study costs
French-speaking students take to the streets on Wednesday to demand study cost reduction in the French community in Belgium. The federation of the French-speaking students (FEF) is expecting 2000 demonstrators in the streets of Brussels.
Last Monday students already blocked several streets in Louvain-la-Neuve.
Among other things, the students want tuition to be reduced from 835 to 550 euros, ‘the same tuition fee as in Flanders’, reports Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. Some other demands: a maximum prize for textbooks and courses, free public transportation and reimbursement of internship costs. [MW/transl. YV]
