Commotion about conduct Dutch archbishop
The conduct of Archbishop Eijk of Utrecht has created commotion among Dutch Catholics. The archbishop is criticized for his headstrong actions and ‘unchristian behavior’. He also would have lied about the financial situation of the Utrecht seminary.
Pope Benedictus XVI should discipline Archbishop Eijk of Utrecht, some Catholics say. It is particular held against him that he closed the Utrecht seminary (the Ariëns convict) in 2009, without consulting fellow bishops. According to Eijk, the Utrecht convict would not be profitable, daily newspaper de Volkskrant reported.
Several former students of the degree program in Theology at Tilburg University, who also considered a priest training, have studied at the convict. Apart from that, the degree program has no relation with the convict. [MW/transl. YV]
