Small ray of hope for temporary staff

Employees with a temporary contract that have been granted a dispensation until the spring of 2012 may apply for internal vacancies, shows a statement by the Executive Board and the Labor Representation Board on the intranet.

Earlier, the Executive Board and the Labor Representation Board had a difference of opinion about whether the hiring freeze meant a halt to hiring external personnel or that temporary contracts were not being renewed.

“The Labor Representation Board is particularly concerned about temporary staff who left a permanent job elsewhere and who now face the prospect of losing out on a permanent position here, despite performing well in their jobs. This can result in distressing situations”, says the statement.

Both parties have agreed that employees with temporary contracts can also apply to internal vacancies. However the vacancies will be filled in a certain order: first redeployment-candidates, then internal staff with a permanent contract, after that in cases where a dispensation has been granted first internal staff with a temporary contract and then external candidates.

At the end of May 2011, the University council will take a decision on the strategic aspects of the reorganization. After that talks will once again be held between the Labor Representation Board and the Executive Board regarding the regulations for filling vacancies and redeployment. [MW/transl. YV]
