Tilburg against introduction of cannabis pass

Tilburg city council rejected the government plans to introduce a so-called wietpas (cannabis pass). Already three other major Brabant’s cities have opposed the closed club system.

Mayor Peter Noordanus, however, was in favor of the government plans.  A registration for cannabis users, using a wietpas, should keep tourists and minors out of the ‘coffee shops’.

Tilburg council members opposed the wietpas: they are worried that a closed club system will only lead to an increase in street dealing and nuisance.

The council told the Mayor and Aldermen not to accept the system unless the government makes it compulsory.
