3637 students on waiting list for room

About 1100 students, looking for accommodation, have registered with WonenBreburg this year. Currently 3637 students are on the waiting list, figures from the housing corporation show. In January the waiting list reached 2507 applicants, compared to 2286 in November 2010.

It is hard to tell how high the demand of student housing really is and whether the accommodation shortage is growing. Many students are registered with housing corporation WonenBreburg, while they have already found a room on the private market.

A lot of university students are housed in student apartments at the Verbernelaan. These flats were to be demolished, but is not clear when. Before breaking down the building, the housing corporation has to provide other accommodation for the students who are living there now. A possible location for new student rooms could be the magazijnkwartier, near the Peter Vreedeplein. 265 student rooms were to be built there.
