Utrecht best Dutch research university

Utrecht University is ranked as best research university in the Netherlands. In the annual ‘Academic Ranking of World Universities’ the university takes the 48th position. Tilburg University ranks one of the lowest on this international list, somewhere between position 400 and 500.

Annually, the Shanghai ranking measures the number of scientific awards and the number of publications in leading scientific journals like Nature and Science of thousand research universities. Tilburg University scores low because its research focuses mainly on social sciences and humanities. Utrecht scored well due to its number of publications.

Harvard University tops the Shanghai ranking list. US universities Stanford, MIT and Berkeley come in second, third and fourth place. The British Cambridge University takes fifth place.
