Studium Generale and Center for Science and Values merge

Studium Generale and the Center for Science and Values have merged into one department. As from now it is called Academic Forum.

According to Annemarie Hinten, the new head of Academic Forum, the merger has been in the pipeline for a long while. Studium Generale and the Center for Science and Values ??were both part of Student Services (DSZ). “About five years ago, DSZ agreed in its strategic plan that both departments would merge. In some areas the two already had an overlap and were already working together. The merger is not caused by the cutbacks at the university. It, however, is a good moment. Otherwise it would have happened one year later.”

Academic Forum will still organize symposiums and debates on scientific, social and ideological issues. Some things, however, will change. The Academic Forum will make more use of social media and will have more meetings reflecting courses and studies at Tilburg University. “What is offered in lectures, what is still missing? Maybe we can give additional lectures for small groups of students. The focus will be on students, but at the same time we will organize cultural  activities for Tilburg residents.”
