Higher fees have no affect on international students

Students from outside the European Union do not stay away from Dutch universities since the Dutch government increased its residence permit fees in July. “The fee costs for these students, who completely self finance their study and stay, are a small portion of the total costs.”

Dutch minister of Immigration Gerd Leers says this in response to parliamentary questions of Democrats ‘66 (D ’66). From 1 July the fees for residence permits have been increased in the Netherlands, an increase of 33 percent in some cases.

Because of the current number of international students, the higher fee rates bring in more than 1 million euros.
