Faculties do not pay for financial setback

The financial setback of 1.8 million euros (government money that the university had expected to receive, but that will not be granted), will not be passed on to the faculties, chairman of the Executive Board Hein van Oorschot said during the university council meeting last Friday. The Executive Board is still looking for a solution for the financial loss.

This year, the university expects to receive about 2 million euros less than expected for its financial framework. The board, however, does not want to pass on these costs to the faculties after all the budget cut plans. “For 2012, we will therefore propose to offer compensation for the financial damage through university reserves and funds”, chairman Van Oorschot explains. This proposal will be discussed soon.

During the Education and Research committee meeting of the university council rector Philip Eijlander said: “The university indeed has to suffer a setback of approximately two million euros. The money must be found at central support level.”
