Stappegoor swimming pool closed due to corrosion

Swimming pool Stappegoor has closed its doors temporarily. A part of the suspended ceiling system is corroded and must be replaced, a pool safety inspection showed.

Last week there was a fatal accident in Tilburg Reeshof swimming pool. A baby died from her injuries after she was hit by two speakers that fell down. After the accident the municipality decided to thoroughly inspect both municipal pools (Stappegoor and Reeshof).

Mayor of Tilburg Peter Noordanus does not want to take any chances after the accident of last week. “The safety of our visitors comes first. Therefore, the pool will be closed until all work has been finished”, he said.

It is still unclear how long it will take to do replace the corroded parts. The closure means that university staff and students with a sports card temporarily have to go for a swim somewhere else.

Tilburg Reeshof swimming pool was closed but will reopen today at 12.00.
