The May Market will take place

The traditional, annual market in the centre of Tilburg in May (so called Meimarkt) will take place. However, there will be about 60 stalls less this year.

Due to the legislation allowing the shops to be open on Sundays, the hosting of the Meimarkt this year was questioned. It was expected that retailers on Heuvelstraat, Willem II straat, Katterug and Pieter Vreedeplein would disapprove the stalls blocking the entrances to their stores. Most shopkeepers, however, did not object the market to take place, or decided to close their shops on that day.

This is the 32nd edition of the Meimarkt and will take place on May 19 and 20, reports the Brabants Dagblad. The Meimarkt is popular among students who buy and sell second hand furniture.

In Heuvelstraat and Pieter Vreedeplein fewer stalls will be placed. Additional stalls will be located at Koningsplein, and probably also at Paleisring and on Willemsplein. In total, 530 stalls are expected this year. Registration for the market is possible from February 9.
