Ice-skating: fun but dangerous
Feel like going ice-skating now that snow is falling in the Netherlands? Be careful, the risk of ending up in the emergency room is considerably higher than with other sports.
Though the ice in the Netherlands has not yet reached the critical thickness of 6 cm., many students are getting their skates ready for when they can mount the ice. But take caution, 77 out of 100.000 ice-skaters end up in the hospital, says RTLnieuws.
The main injuries are bone fractures, but also brain damage for the impact of the fall on the ice are much heard in the emergency room.
The winter weather will last at least untill Tuesday so chances are you can go ice-skating on natural ice after this weekend.
