New Vidar boat shed

Vidar will have a new boat shed. The contractor has already started the construction work and the shed should be ready in June. There will also be a new boardroom and storage space.

Sandra Bouwman, a chairman of Vidar construction board, armed with a pile of drawings shows the differences between the old and the new building. “The old corrugated iron shed has been demolished. The old stone building with the reception room and the boardroom will stay, but is being renovated. The boardroom will be turned into library and the room with rowing machines into a living room where the rowers can relax. We build four sections. There will be a new boardroom / meeting room, new storage, a boathouse and a boat shed. ”

With building a new boathouse Vidar aims at national and international top teams looking for a suitable training location. Bouwman: “Vidar should become the training location of the Netherlands. The conditions here are very good. The water is calm and the wind is usually quiet. Last year the Canadian women’s team already trained here, but we had no place for their boats which had to stay outside. Soon the top teams will be able to rent space in the boathouse. This summer several teams will come to visit on their way to the Olympics in London. ”

The new building of Vidar will also get a connection with the ICT infrastructure of the university, so that the rowers can do their homework between trainings. The cost of new construction and renovation is € 1.2 million, an amount consisting of funding from the municipality, the province, the university, Rabobank and Heineken. Vidar also rose money themselves through various activities.
