Complaint website against immigrants

The Dutch right-wing party PVV, led by Geert Wilders, has launched a website where people can report complaints about Central and Eastern European immigrants in the Netherlands. The embassies of CEE countries strongly object.

“Do you have problems with people from central and eastern Europe? Have you lost your job to a Pole, Bulgarian, Romanian or other eastern European? We want to know”, the website states. It is also illustrated by strong newspaper headlines such as “Wouldn’t it be better if you went back?” and “Eastern Europeans, increasingly criminal”.

According to the initiators, the website is a big success. PVV spokesman Ino van den Besselaar told Dutch newspaper the Telegraaf that 14,000 complaints have been collected already. The website receives much criticism from the Polish Embassy in the Netherlands, which calls for action against the initiative. The embassy has urged Geert Wilders to take the site offline, and have asked the national ombudsman to state whether the website breaks the Dutch law.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also wants the Dutch authorities to take action. The ministry argues that the website “violates European norms”. It is also discriminatory, and not in line with the European spirit, DutchNews.nl reports.

The internet community adopted a more ironic approach. An anonymus creator has launched a similar website, allowing Dutch people to report… another Dutch person, namely citizens of Limburg, one of the Dutch provinces.
