Student wins Leo Coolen Award
Student Bart Joosten won the Leo Coolen Award for his master’s thesis. The prize is awarded annually to the best thesis in the field of (tele-) communication. The award is an amount of €500.
In his thesis, titled Facial Expression Recognition. Towards digital support for behavioral scientists, Joosten presents a method of semi-automatic recognition of facial expressions on videos. Basing on video recordings of children’s reactions, in 70% of cases the method could successfully predict whether the children were asked a difficult or an easy question.
Joosten is now a PhD student at the Department of Communication and Information Sciences at TiU.
