Doubts about Master programs

About three quarters of the Dutch students doubts to take a Master program. The cuts in higher education resulted in many students seriously considering finishing their education after receiving their Bachelor diploma.  One third of the students wouldn’t have started their Masters if they were aware of the cuts beforehand.

This is shown by a research done by the Studentenbureau. If only HBO students are taken into consideration, the percentage of doubters is even higher: 84% of the HBO students are unsure about doing a Master degree.

It seems, according to the statistics of Studentenbureau, that the policy of Secretary Zijlstra can be characterized as discouraging. The number of students who will eventually drop out of their master program is unknown, but many are seriously considering this possibility.

Pascal ten Have, the Chairman of the National Union of Students, commented: “This research shows that large groups of students are excluded because of the implementation of this terrible law.”
