Sit-in protest in Utrecht

About 150 striking cleaners, who demand an increase in salary and sick pay, are protesting at the Utrecht University.

On Tuesday morning the cleaning crew called a sit-in in one of the classrooms at Utrecht University. Over 40 students joined the cleaners and were locked in the building overnight. The protesters even hired DJs for entertainment. They could recover from the festive protest on the field beds.

Marco van Moort from FNV Bondgenoten: “I don’t exclude the possibility of the protest at Tilburg University. The working conditions for cleaners are just as bad as in Utrecht.” According to the messages received by Univers, the cleaners heard a warning yesterday morning:” You can strike, but we can always find someone else to replace you.“ Find more information on schoongenoeg.nl.

After 11 am yesterday the cleaners continued the protests outside. Follow DUB (independent platform of the UU) for more information.
