Amsterdam University supports study on children’s health
The Amsterdam University Fund gave an amount of €15.000 for the AMC study Amsterdam Born Children and Their Development (ABCD). It is a large-scale research on the health of children coming from different ethnic origins.
FoliaWeb reports, that the ABCD research might also include an examination of the blood of pregnant women. Researchers want to find out whether certain characteristics in the maternal blood might contribute to the child’s development of obesity.
The researchers will also examine the extent to which children’s health from birth to adulthood is influenced by the lifestyle and living conditions of the mother during pregnancy and after birth. Special attention is given to ethnic differences. The aim of the study is to reduce inequalities in health among ethnic groups.
