Lawsuit against long study fine
On 21 May 2012, three student unions ISO (Interstedelijk Studenten Overleg), Landelijke Kamer van Verenigingen (LKvV) and De Landelijke Studentenvakbond (LSVb) will meet in the court against the Dutch state in The Hague. The student unions question the validity of the long study fine.
The trial begins at 9.30 am. The lawyers Tom Barkhuysen, Anna Collignon and Machteld Claessens will represent the interests of the student organizations. According to them the introduction of the long study fine is unlawful, because no adequate transition period is set. It also does not take part-time students into account.
Sebastiaan Hameleers, a president of the ISO is pleased that the date of the lawsuit is finally set. “It is in the interest of all those students who by September 1, 2012 are threatened by long study fine. Finally there some clarity.”
