Number of women at work increased

Women in the Netherlands have a reason to celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow. The number of employed women increased up to 60%.

The Dutch Central Office for Statistics (CBS) reports that in 2011 nearly 3.3 million women was working twelve hours per week or more. This is over 460 thousand more than in 2002.

However, women still work mainly part-time. The growth of female employment has occurred almost entirely in part-time jobs (20-35 hours per week). The main reasons for women choosing apart-time job over a full-time commitment is that they want to combine their professional career with taking care of family and household.
