Maastricht students promote party with Joseph Fritzl

There are funny students and there are students. The Maastricht student organization Circumflex use very interesting promotional methods. They used the image of Joseph Fritzl to promote their party.

Of course, when you hope for many people to come to your party, there is nothing wrong with making a promo video. And then of course you have to make it funny. Maybe even cause a little commotion. Well, in achieving the latter Circumflex was successful. If you watch the promo movie carefully, you can see after the heading “Villains and Villains” (yes, it is a party with themes) a photograph of Joseph Fritzl. Underneath is the text: “Josef Fritzl, an animal, a monster, a do it yourself hero”.

For those who in recent years have been cut off from the news: Fritzl kept his daughter in the cellar under his house, and abused her many times. As a result, his daughter have birth to seven children and miscarried one pregnancy. At the age of 73 he was arrested in his hometown of Amstetten in Austria. A pretty sick mind.

And that sick mind was used by Circumflex to sell tickets to their party. You do not need to be a hard core moralist not to appreciate the sense of humor. Demolition contractors , for example, don’t use an image of Osama bin Laden to promote their services. And they have good reasons.

The movie caused a lot of excitement. Several newspapers have already noticed the faux pas, many Maastricht students are angry, and even a protest blog was launched.
