St. Olof and Amaranth organize a special sports day

Student association Olof proves that students do more than drink beer and sleep. On Saturday, March 31, in collaboration with Amaranth they organize a sports day for people with mild intellectual disabilities. 25 members of St. Olof will volunteer.

“We want to show students another side of society,” said Tim van der Steen on behalf of St. Olaf organization of the sports day. “And so we contribute to society.”

St. Olaf celebrates its seventeenth anniversary, and that will not go unnoticed. So there will be a big party for all students, a parade through Tilburg, and an academic day at the university. But this year the Olof Anniversary Foundation wanted something different. “Many students are active and involved, but mainly in their own surrounding,” explains Van der Steen. “We wanted to show them that some groups in society have a lot more difficult life than we do. In addition, we wanted to show how easy it is for students to contribute to the good cause”.

Finding 25 volunteers wasn’t a problem. On Saturday, March 31, they will together with volunteers from Amaranth to organize a sports day for the mentally disabled. Apart for Wipe-out attractions there will be a cozy terrace and an inflatable football field.

“If we can correct some preconceptions about students, then it is a bonus,” says Van der Steen. “But the important thing is that the participants have an unforgettable day.”

The event will start at 12.00.
