Students increasingly chose Belgium over the Netherlands

The number of students fleeing the Netherlands because of the reforms in Higher Education is increasing. Compared to last year, seven percent more students go to study in Belgium.

Over 4500 students have migrated to our southern neighbors. It is expected that this number will increase when the scholarship for master students will be cancelled. That message was published in the Volkskrant basing on a survey conducted by Nuffic. As usual, it’s all about money. Belgium is attractive to students mainly because of the low tuition fees. Student there pay two thirds less than in the Netherlands.

Also, the level of education is comparable, the admission requirements are less strict and housing availability is better in Belgium. In addition, there is no language barrier.
