Tilburg Center will be renewed
The first vision of a renewed city center of Tilburg is known. This proposal mainly focuses on the Pieter Vreedeplein, the area around the City Hall and the Emmapassage.
A spokesman of the municipality of Tilburg David Chapman emphasized that this is only a first draft: “This is the first step towards a better city center. the final plan will still take years.” The intervention is a consequence the fact that a shopping mall was rejected by the population in a referendum.
Despite the fact that Pieter Vreedeplein was renewed only four years ago, it will also be a a part of future renovations. Especially the south, with the old “Broodje Kras” and the V & D, are now a problem of the municipality. A new facade, a park and some additional stores will make the square more intimate.
The roof above the Emmapassage will disappear, so it becomes a shopping street. The second floor, now a parking garage, will have additional retail space.
The first plans will now be discussed with business owners, residents and other stakeholders.
