Stapel fraud-meter continues to rise

The number of cases in which Professor Diederik Stapel has committed fraud is still rising. The number of frauds (when Stapel was in Tilburg) turned out to be committed in 26 studies that Stapel co-wrote and 3 dissertations for which he gave data to PhD students.

The Levelt committee has examined 41 studies and 4 theses. Only in 15 studies and a dissertation Stapel has not committed any fraud. This is the new data that the committee has posted on its website. In April and early May the committee published part of their research already twice.

The committees Noort and Drenth also revealed ?? partial results of their research on Stapel’s methods at universities in Groningen and Amsterdam.

The Drenth committee looked into thirty publications/dissertations. In six of them it is suspected that something is wrong, however fraud has not been proved. Stapel himself said he does not remember committing any data fabrication in Amsterdam. He disagrees with the accusations of fraud.

The coming months will be part of the published study.
