More working hours required from international students

The days when you need to be at work only one day a week are over. International students have to work in order to receive a basic study finance and study loan. Until now 8 hours a week was enough. From the beginning of the new academic year the foreigners have to work 14 hours a week.

State Secretary Zijlstra focuses not only students who take to much time to finish their studies- international students are also targets of one of his actions. To be eligible for a study finance and loan, foreign students will have to work at least fourteen hours a week. An employment contract with fewer hours will not be sufficient.

Zijlstra explains his action : “‘A European student who works only 8 hours per week does not enjoy all the benefits of being employed. I think it is not fair to pamper foreign students while asking sacrifices from Dutch students. “
