Univers temporarily removed from main building

Univers  was removed from the main building during the official opening of the academic year. Reason: the cover portraying a student throwing up, The Brabants Dagblad writes. By sheer coincidence, Francine Bardoel, Univers’ Chief Editor, discovered that the magazine’s stands had been emptied prior to the solemn gathering on Monday. Not long after she had refilled the stands, she found them emptied out again.

On inquiry, it turned out that this had been done by superior order. The University’s press officer refused to comment.

Earlier, a spokesperson told the Algemeen Nijmeegs Studentenblad (ANS) that the Board of Governors had ordered the magazine to be removed due to its cover. However, Chief Editor Bardoel suspects an individual action. She is not impressed by the fact that the editorial office wasn’t informed. “It happened in a very sneaky way.” According to her, the cover is a ‘fallacy’. “Univers has two covers, they could have turned it over where a picture of a smiling student having a casual beer is depicted. However, we chose to show the vomiting student on the cover, in order to highlight the negative aspects of alcohol. The Red Cross has already put in a request to use the photo.”
