Meet the World: Elections in the USA

With the elections in the United States the subject for this Meet the World was not hard to choose. They invited three students from America to share their opinion about the upcoming president.

Luc Jeurrissen, project manager of Academic Forum and travelguide in the US, started this meeting with the question: what makes a good president? He presented the audience a list of all the formal presidents of the United States of America. Jeurrissen also explained why some presidents were more successful than the others. The main reason: starting a war and eventually winning one is the best you can do as a president.

He also states that the republicans have changed during history. For example, the discontent pulls in only one direction: right. Also the political war is waged over a handful of explosive cultural issues, such as abortion and gay marriage.

One of the three American students, born in Massachusetts, claimed that the major problem in American politics is that the youngest generation copies the voting behavior of their parents. So the two big parties: republicans and democratic, will always be the biggest ones. “The new generation leaves the other parties no chance because they don’t go out and search for more than they already know. And this won’t change in a few years. I think the soonest we will see new light in our elections will be fifty years from now.”
