TiU PhD student will represent women in the UN

The Dutch Women’s Council Josette Dijkhuizen was elected a representative in the United Nations. Businesswoman and a PhD student Dijkhuizen will go to New York in October next year as a part of the government delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations. She will speak on behalf of the Dutch women leaders.

The 43-year-old Dijkhuizen coaches and advises new and experienced entrepreneurs. Since 2010 she is also a PhD student at Tilburg University. In her research she focuses on success and happiness factors of entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. According to Dijkhuizen, women setting up their own company is a powerful means of emancipation. More entrepreneurship among women worldwide means that it is not only an improvement in the position of women, but also increases their prosperity and well-being.

Since the birth of the United Nations in 1945 a Woman Representative takes part in the Dutch Kingdom Delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations. The Dutch Women’s Council, containing 51 women’s organizations, selects and supervises the Women’s Representative.
