Second study remains ‘free’
The ambitious students need not fear the extra tuition fees. The second study remains ‘free’.
In 2007 an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Education, and colleges and universities that a second study was free of extra charge. This was a response to the law that imposed tuition fee for a second Bachelor or Master program. This meant that a student had to pay thousands of euros extra.
This agreement expires after the academic year 2012/2013. However, VVD and the PvdA want to renew it. The parties want to keep the possibility for gifted students to finish their second study paying the same tuition as their first one. They have to start their second program before obtaining their first degree, though.
