Absenteeism among TiU personnel
Tilburg University’s scientific personnel (SP) and non-scientific personnel (NSP) differ in their rate of absence. Scientific personnel call in sick less than their non-scientific counterparts. The difference between the two groups is remarkable. That is the conclusion of the annual Health, Safety and Environment report.
The absence rate for scientific personnel is 1.26 percent. This percentage is a lot lower than the national target of 2.5 percent. There are differences among the faculties as well, with humanities having the highest absence rate at 2.5 percent. The absence rate of non-scientific personnel is at 3.49 percent: slightly higher than the national target at 3.40 percent.
The difference between SP and NSP can be attributed to poor registration of absence among scientific personnel. Besides that, scientists have more freedom in their work as they can work in the evening if they’re sick during the day. The highest rate of absenteeism of non-scientific personnel was registered at the Economic- and Law faculties.
All in all, TiU’s absence rate (2.23 percent) is still lower than the nationwide target at 2,9 percent.
