Amsterdam University Library opened 24/7

The University of Amsterdam experimented with being open 24/7. It was a great success. The initiative to keep the library opened for 24 hours came from the student body.

According to a press-release, students were studying in great numbers until two in the night. Annemijn van Rheden, chairman of one of the initiating student parties, said that the success of this night is further reason to keep the library open until two at night, at least during examination periods: “it shows that there is a need for extended opening hours among students.”

Here in Tilburg student parties Front and SAM are endeavoring to extend the library’s opening hours as well. SAM primarily wants longer opening hours during the weekend. They say that students in general are happy with the opening hours during the week. Front says that their international supporters do want extended opening hours during the week.

Both parties have sent notice to the Excutive Board. The board will discuss that matter later.
