Koen Becking on China
Tilburg University put in a lot of effort to honor the long relations we’ve had with Chinese Universities. The programme was filled to the brim and a strong delegation was sent to finalize multiple contracts and cooperation opportunities with China in the week of 12 to 18 October.
Tilburg University is, for instance, possibly going to play a role in developing a new free-trade-zone in supercity Shanghai. This’ll happen with the blessing of the Chinese Executive Leadership Academy Pudnong (CELAP), with which the delegation from Tilburg had a meeting. “Professors in Tilburg with an expertise in taxes, intellectual property law and datamanagement will be involved in the project,” says CvB-chairman Koen Becking.
Executive MBA in Shanghai
Becking also signed a contract for an Executive MBA in Shanghai, that TiasNimbas will offer, together with Shanghai Jiaotong University, from March 2014. “It’s really special”, according to Becking, since this particular University belongs to the top 3 of Chinese Universities.
De CvB-chairman was very impressed with the reception of their delegation in China. He was there with Kees Koedijk (TiasNimbas), Hans Somsen (TLS), Philip Joos (TiSEM), Sjaak Kroon (TSH) and Miranda Noordermeer (TLS). “With all due respect”, he recaps. “Their respect for our university shines through in everything that they do and say.” The Chinese pay a lot of attention to the position TiU achieves in different rankings according to Becking. “They want to work together with the best schools, that is very important to them. However, it’s more than that. It also has to do with the strong relations that our schools and faculties built with China and with our exchange programs for students and teachers.”
Shanghai wasn’t the only city that the delegation visited. Another visit was paid to capital Beijng where an agreement was made with Central South University. There were meetings with the Chinese University of Political Science and Law, Renmin University, Beiing University and Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT).
