15 percent of social-psychological researches trashed
When re-done, two out of thirteen social-psychological researches turn out to be unreliable. The Manylabs Replication Project, also known as the ‘spring cleaning’ in social-psychological science, has showed this. Thirty-six research groups worldwide are contributing to the project.
Affairs like the fraud of Tilburg professor Diederik Stapel motivated scientists to start the research. Dutch paper De Volkskrant writes about it this morning. Social Psychology magazine will publish ManyLabs’ results in a theme issue. The two research results that turned out to be foul, treated the subject of ‘social priming’. According to this psychological phenomenon, people are influenced by short exposures to sounds and images.
