World War II scholarships for Canadians

70 Canadian students will be invited to study in The Netherlands in 2015 on a so-called liberation scholarship. Next year, it is the official 70th anniversary of the liberation from World War II.

The scholarships will be awarded across five sectors: peace and justice, the creative industry, energy, nature, and history. One goal of the project is to stimulate Canadian students to come to The Netherlands. It also shows the historical ties between the two countries, Freddy Weima, Director-General of Nuffic, says to The Pie News. The Canadians played a large role in the liberation of The Netherlands during World War II, and around one million Canadians have Dutch ancestors.

So far, 24 institutions have signed up for the program. Dutch businesses in Canada have also been asked to provide input.
