Studyportals: International students love TiU

Tilburg University shares a first place for student satisfaction with the University of Groningen. International students graded their experiences in Tilburg with an average of 9.4 on a scale of 10.

Groningen university ended up scoring 0.09 points higher and is now in first place with Tilburg being a close second. Univers already wrote that Dutch universities scored well with international students. Studyportals announced last week that the Netherlands scored 4th place when it comes to Europe. And now they’ve announced that our own little university is scoring really well with international students.

Methodology
Researchers asked students whether they would recommend their experiences abroad to friends, on a scale of one to ten. (Would you recommend your experience to your friends?). Then they were asked what the reasons were for the grade they’d give. Unlike traditional surveys they didn’t get a set number of replies, but were allowed to write down their own reasons in a free input box on the survey. This allowed researchers to sift out the different influencers for the grades that were later organized into different themes.

Joran van Aart, researcher at Study Portals, tells Univers:
“Scores show that the Netherlands gets great scores when it comes to the quality of the teachers. Teachers and professors know what they’re talking about and are approachable for their students. There’s also a lot of great comments about the quality of the education itself, some students even say that the level of knowledge taught and expected of the students can be too high.”

“Students are least positive about things like accommodation and expenses, which is to be expected in the Netherlands, as costs are generally quite high here. The rooms, so students say, are expensive and sometimes inadequate. Even though not all comments are positive we generally get great scores. The Netherlands is right on the European average with its score of 8.8.”
